Can we get married at St Marys?
You may wish to marry at St Mary’s, even though you don’t live in the parish, because it has special significance for you through family or other special connections. Thanks to a new law an engaged couple can now do just that if either of you can show just one of the following seven connections with Wendover parish.
That one of you:
was baptised in the parish or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents or grandparents:
was married in the parish
In all cases involving church services – i.e. going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage – this applies only to Church of England services. Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we want to help you explore whether it may still be possible for you to marry at St Mary’s.
Please contact the Parish Office who will send you all the information you need and put you in touch with the vicar to discuss the options open to you.
One of us is divorced, so can we still get married in church?
Yes, as the Church of England rules which used to prohibit marriage after a divorce have now changed.
However, decisions are made on an individual basis – the clergy will be happy to meet with you to discuss your situation. Please contact the Parish Office to arrange this.
So how do we arrange our wedding?
Please contact our Parish Office. They’ll take your details and send you all the information you need.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book their wedding about a year in advance, but it is better to book as soon as possible. You’ll find that it is usually harder to arrange your reception on the date you want than it is to book the church, so it’s best to get that organised first.
How much will it cost?
The basic cost of a church wedding is £450; bells and flowers are extra. All the details of costs are listed in the wedding information pack which will be sent to you.
Will we need to do any preparation before getting married in church?
Each year we run a short course on a Sunday afternoon to help couples prepare for marriage. Couples getting married in Wendover or Halton are invited to this event, as are couples who live in Wendover but are getting married elsewhere. The aim of this afternoon is to enable couples to consider aspects of their relationship. It is an informal afternoon which includes refreshments and the opportunity to look at the wedding service.
Can we contact someone who has been married at St Mary’s?
If you’d like to speak to a couple who married recently at St Mary’s please contact the Parish Office.

How far in advance should we book?
You will find that it can often be harder to find a venue available for your reception than it is to book the church, so it may be wise to provisionally book the venue and then see if the church can accommodate that date.
