St Mary’s Celebrates 2012 – Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May
This event is aiming to celebrate 2012, the year of the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics coming to London, by welcoming visitors to our parish church and showing off the village skills through floral arrangements, musical presentations and artistic displays.
The weekend, come rain or shine, promises to be bursting with family fun and entertainment. Groups throughout the village are entering floral exhibits. For the musically minded, there will be performances from our local schools, professional musicians and our own very talented St Mary’s music group. For those keen on viewing art, there will be displays in both two and three dimensions. Sunday 6th will focus on family activities with a BBQ, bouncy slide and children’s activities. Tea, cakes and coffee will be served on all three days and a ploughmans lunch on both Saturday and Monday. In addition, a plant and book sale, a raffle and tombola, and Pimms and local ale will all be available for sale.
And finally, don’t forget the special events taking place on the Saturday and Sunday evenings. The AMC Big Band will be performing on the Saturday 5th May from 7.30pm and we are looking forward to an evening of superb music from one of the country’s most successful youth jazz bands, having received 24 National Awards, including winning the BBC Radio 2 National Big Band Competition 4 times and the Outstanding Performance Award at the Montreux Jazz festival. Tickets are available for sale at St Mary’s church on Sunday mornings or @stmarys on the High Street. Furthermore, the Songs of Praise concert at St Mary’s from 6.30pm on Sunday 6th May will provide a special service of celebration whilst we enjoy the beautifully refurbished church enhanced with the floral displays.
Proceeds from the whole weekend will be given to the St Mary’s refurbishment fund. Offers of support are gratefully received by Carol Crockett on carol@aimzine.co.uk. We are in need of cakes, books, plants and of course raffle and tombola prizes. If you can volunteer during the weekend, whether serving teas and coffees, or helping out with children’s activities, please do let us know.
Please see the outline programme of events for the whole weekend.
